Sacred Sound Healing with the Reiki Symbols

Learn the sacred sounds of the Reiki symbols called Kotodama – a Japanese word that can be translated as ‘words carrying spirit’ or essentially, words carrying healing energy.
The words and sounds invoke specific energy that can be utilised in a Reiki session.
Kotodama is an ancient Shinto and Buddhist practice. Reiki Kotodama was taught by Mikao Usui as part of his original Reiki teachings. Unlike the symbols themselves, the Reiki kotodama sounds can be shared openly for the benefit of Reiki clients.
Mantra recitation is a powerful vibrational healing practice that carries the energy of its intention. In a traditional Buddhist non-dualistic view, the mantra contains the intention and the already completed wish/action.
Each Reiki symbol has its own kotodama made up of vowel sounds. We will learn and practice the kotodama and learn how to connect to each symbol and its sound as well as to its corresponding energy centre in the body and the symbol’s corresponding elements and qualities that can be invoked through the sound.
This training is for existing Reiki practitioners of level 2 and above who wish to enhance their personal or professional practice with sound.
I was taught the Reiki Kotodama at both Reiki Master/Teacher level and at Shamanic Reiki Drum Master/Teacher level.
Kotodama isn’t traditionally taught using a drum, but as a Reiki Drum practitioner I will utilise the drum to accompany the training. If you have a drum you are welcome to bring it, but please note this isn’t the equivalent to Reiki Drum practitioner training, which requires in-depth drum techniques and case studies.
Here’s an example of a Kotodama (to my own melody):
